A concept identity for a cocktail-led, chess-structured dining room. Self-directed exploration, not a signed client engagement.
Challenge
Every chess room looks the same.
The obvious version of a chess-themed room hangs giant pieces on the walls and calls it a concept. We needed something built for adults having a proper night out, not a novelty stop — fine dining's polish with a bar's pulse, where the game shows up in the room's structure instead of its decor. The brief also had to avoid claiming to be the first chess-themed room; that space already has precedent, so the identity needed its own distinction rather than the idea of chess itself.

Solution
One hue per shot. Chess, served.
We built the identity around a single rule: every image lives in one saturated hue plus a neutral, and chess pieces only ever appear as something held, poured, or served — a knight standing in a coupe, riding chopsticks, a board rendered in shot glasses on the bar top. The evening itself is structured as three phases, Openings, The Middlegame, Endgames, carried through to tables numbered by chess coordinate and a bill that arrives on a card marked simply "Check." The mark is a mirrored pair of hand-inked knights facing each other, with a supporting device, the knight's move traced as a thin L-shaped line, extended across the system as a divider, a bullet, and a repeating knight's-tour pattern.
